Abstract: The sugarcane market shows results that denote importance for the Brazilian economy since the colonial period, with performance even in the international market, reaching 23% of global production and 49% of worldwide exports. In this context, the article aims to present a comparison of real and projected data for sugarcane in the Brazilian market, covering the time series from 2013 to 2026. It is worth noting that real data show the performance of sugarcane before the COVID-19 pandemic period and during the period of social isolation. Projection data were worked on without the pandemic period as a way of comparing with real data in an atypical period, such as the pandemic. The methodology is quantitative and qualitative, with comparative and explanatory results extracted from real data from 2016 to 2021 and projections from 2013 to 2026, ex-post and ex-ante. The article is justified due to the COVID-19 pandemic period, during which most sectors of the economy stopped, while the sugarcane sector continued with its market segments. It was concluded that even during the COVID-19 pandemic period, the sugarcane sector did not stop at any time during the years under study, and its derivative products, such as the sugar-alcohol and sugar-energy sectors, expanded in the market during an economic recession, with the exception of ethanol, which experienced a reduction due to a decrease in demand, an increase in stock, and a decrease in prices.
