MEMORIAL DA IMIGRAÇÃO E CULTURA JAPONESA DA UFRGS: ENTRE AS MEMÓRIAS DO PASSADO E DO PRESENTE
O projeto de extensão Memorial da Imigração e Cultura Japonesa da UFRGS foi criado em 2009, a partir da constatação da carência de materiais existentes para pesquisa na área de imigração, verificada durante os preparativos para a comemoração do cinqüentenário da imigração japonesa no Rio Grande do Sul, em 2006, de modo que essa imigração estava à margem de estudos. A parceria entre Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul e Universidade Federal de Santa Maria viabilizou a implantação deste projeto. Um dos principais objetivos é divulgar e disponibilizar ao público interessado as fontes de pesquisa e atividades relacionadas à cultura japonesa, praticados tanto no Japão como as praticadas entre os imigrantes japoneses. O Memorial possui atualmente mais de 1500 obras que compõe o acervo bibliográfico, referentes à cultura moderna e tradicional japonesa, migração e demais assuntos, em português e em língua japonesa. Metodologicamente, para difundir a cultura japonesa, realiza periodicamente as ações educativas tais como Shodô, a arte da caligrafia japonesa utilizando o pincel especial e tinta de sumi, oficina de Furoshiki, a arte de embrulhar objetos com pano quadrado, o Origami, a arte de criar figuras com dobradura de papéis, o minicurso de Watoji, a encadernação japonesa que consiste na elaboração de caderno costurado em estilo japonês, em que costuram as capas juntamente com a parte interna. Além desses, o Memorial também oferece oficinas de língua japonesa, confecção de carimbo e outras atividades relacionados à cultura japonesa. Considera-se que este projeto é relevante diante do perfil dos indivíduos envolvidos. Desde 2009 quando o Memorial foi fundado até os dias de hoje, mais de mil pessoas e várias instituições externas como bibliotecas municipais e associações locais participaram dessas atividades culturais, envolvendo os alunos de graduação, pós-graduação, pesquisadores além do público em geral, dando o caráter multidisciplinar e interinstitucional.

Abstract:
The Memorial of Japanese Immigration and Culture of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul is an extention project created in 2009 as a result of the perception of a gap in materials for research in the area of immigration, when in preparation for the 50th anniversary of Japanese immigration in Rio Grande do Sul in 2006. The partnership between the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and the Federal University of Santa Maria made it possible to implement this project. One of the main objectives is to disseminate and make available to the interested public the sources of research and activities related to the Japanese culture, practiced both in Japan and among Japanese immigrants in Brazil. The Memorial has currently over 1500 works that make up the bibliographic collection, referring to modern and traditional Japanese culture, migration and other subjects, in both Portuguese and Japanese language. Methodologically, in order to spread the Japanese culture, it periodically carries out educational actions such as Shodô, the art of Japanese calligraphy using the special brush and sumi paint, Furoshiki's workshop, the art of wrapping objects with square cloth, Origami, the art of creating figures with paper folding, and Watoji minicourse, the Japanese bookbinding which consists of the elaboration of a Japanese style sewn notebook, in which they sew the covers together with the inside. In addition to these, the Memorial also offers Japanese language workshops, stamp making and other activities related to Japanese culture. This project is considered relevant to the profile of the individuals involved. Since 2009, when the Memorial was founded until the present day, more than a thousand people and various outside institutions such as municipal libraries and local associations have participated in these cultural activities, involving undergraduate and graduate students, reseachers and the general public, giving it a multidisciplinary and inter-institutional character.
