Abstract: This chapter focuses on the optimization of the automotive engine crankshaft production process through the application of lean manufacturing techniques and discrete event simulation. The current process faces inefficiencies such as bottlenecks, high inventory levels, and excessive non-value-added time, which hinder the company's ability to meet the daily production demand. The main objective of the study is to reduce non-value-added time, eliminate bottlenecks and improve workflow efficiency to increase productivity and meet customer demand. Several improvements are proposed, such as the introduction of standardized work, production cells, Poka Yoke systems and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). Specific adjustments were also made at various stages of the process, such as the reduction of cutting times and the implementation of hydraulic clamping. A simulation of the current and future states of the process was performed to evaluate the impact of these improvements. The results showed a significant reduction in non-value-adding time, from 18.53 days to 3.01 days, representing a decrease of 84.46%. Daily production increased from 427.72 units to 681.31 units, exceeding the required demand. In conclusion, the integration of lean manufacturing techniques significantly improved the efficiency of the production process, reducing lead times by 83.54% and ensuring that daily demand could be met. These improvements demonstrate the effectiveness of lean methodologies in optimizing production systems and improving overall productivity.
