Abstract: : Breast cancer is an abnormal and uncontrolled proliferation of malignant cells in breast tissue. These cells can form tumors and, if left unchecked, invade nearby tissues or spread to other parts of the body through the lymphatic system or blood. This type of cancer begins in the cells of the ducts (which carry milk) or the lobules (milk-producing glands) of the breast. Objective: To determine preventive measures and medical history for breast cancer in women. Materials and methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional, and observational study. Results: Of the 232 women surveyed, 55.2% did not perform breast self-examination; 44.8% had used oral contraceptives; 32.8% were obese; 22.4% denied breastfeeding; 13.8% had no family history of breast cancer; and 10.3% had presented with benign breast disease. Conclusions: The most common risk factors were lack of breast self-examination, obesity, and oral contraceptive use.
