Medidas de Biossegurança Laboratorial - ações protetivas implementadas e um laboratório de análises clínicas durante a pandemia causada pelo vírus SARS-COV-2 (COVID-19)

• Abstract: The concept of Biosafety was strongly consolidated in the 1970s and, since then, it has always been treated as a set of rules, which, if followed as a practice, can promote protection and safety in the management of infectious agents inherent to provision service activities, preservation of the environment and quality of results. The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic reinforced Biosafety as an adaptive science, which seeks, through situational analysis, to develop measures that act effectively and adapt to each work environment's needs and conditions. This work is an integral part of the Quality Management System (QMS) of the Rio de Janeiro Diagnostic Support Unit (UNADIG-RJ), opened in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic through FIOCRUZ to expand the national processing capacity of samples, a fundamental action for epidemiological surveillance of the virus and fighting the pandemic. This work aims not only to obtain and release reliable reports/results but also to guarantee the safety of workers and the environment. Here the guidelines used to ensure compliance with the unit's biosafety standards are reported.
