MAXIMIZAÇÃO DO BEM-ESTAR ANIMAL DURANTE A ROTINA DA GRANJA DE COELHOS
Na granja de coelhos, é possível
adotar medidas simples, durante o manejo
diário, que evitam o estresse dos animais,
e que consequentemente, proporcionam
maior bem-estar (BE). Assim, o objetivo
deste capítulo é expor estratégias podem
ser adotadas durante a rotina da granja de
coelhos para a maximização do BE animal.
Considerou-se para tal, as condições de criação
tradicionalmente adotadas no Brasil. Para
preconizar o BE deve-se evitar ruídos, manter
o ambiente tranquilo e com pouca agitação.
Deve-se também permitir que os animais
expressem seu comportamento natural de roer,
fornecendo forragens aos mesmos. Durante
o acasalamento, o BE é preconizado quando
o ritmo reprodutivo extensivo é o adotado. A
monta deve ocorrer sem interferência humana
e passados 27 dias do acasalamento, deve ser
disponibilizado um ninho a fêmea. O desmame,
é uma das etapas mais estressante da vida dos
animais, pois, no mesmo dia são separados da
sua mãe e perdem a referência do ninho. Com
a finalidade de reduzir esse estresse, devese
procurar manter os animais irmãos juntos,
evitando assim um terceiro fator estressante. O
enriquecimento ambiental também aumenta o
BE e pode ser efetuado com latas vazias, canos
de PVC, correntes, e rolos de papel com ou sem
forragem. Por fim, destaca-se que ao contrário
de décadas atrás, o BE hoje é absolutamente
uma prioridade.

Abstract:
In rabbit farms, it is possible to adopt
simple measures during daily management
that prevent stress from the animals and,
consequently, provide greater welfare (W).
Thus, the objective of this chapter is to expose
strategies that can be adopted during the rabbit
farm routine for the maximization of animal BE.
For this, the breeding conditions traditionally
adopted in Brazil were considered. In order
to advocate W one should avoid noise, keep
the environment quiet and with little agitation.
Animals should also be allowed to express their
natural biting behavior by providing them with
fodder. During mating, W is recommended when
the extensive reproductive rhythm is adopted.
The breeding must occur without human
interference and after 27 days of mating, a nest
must be made available to the female. Weaning
is one of the most stressful stages in the life of animals, because on the same day
they are separated from their mother and lose the nest reference. In order to reduce
this stress, one should try to keep the sibling animals together, thus avoiding a third
stressor. Environmental enrichment also increases BE and can be done with empty
cans, PVC pipes, chains, and paper rolls with or without fodder. Finally, it is noteworthy
that unlike decades ago, BE today is absolutely a priority.
