Abstract: This paper explores the verses of the Therīpadāna, specifically verses 226 to 247, which narrate the spiritual journey of Mahāprajāpatī Gotamī, a pivotal figure in the history of Buddhism. Beginning with an introduction to her historical significance and the challenge of gender inequalities in her time, the study delves into the verses in detail to unveil Gotamī's profound understanding of the Four Noble Truths, a cornerstone of Buddhist philosophy. The methodology involves textual and contextual analysis of the verses, identifying key elements such as "dukkha" (suffering), the cessation of its cause, and the practice of the Noble Eightfold Path. The expected results include an in-depth understanding of Gotamī's spiritual journey, highlighting her pioneering role in the founding of the female monastic order and her impact as a spiritual mentor. Furthermore, this study is expected to contribute to the ongoing appreciation of gender equality in the Buddhist context and inspire future research on the achievements and teachings of women in the Buddhist tradition.
