Abstract: Lipoma consists of a benign tumor of mesenchymal origin, which presents slow growth and is usually asymptomatic. In the oral cavity, these lesions appear as solitary, well-circumscribed submucosal volume enlargements. This work aims to conduct a literature review on the histological variants of intraoral lipoma. To carry out this research, the database selected was PubMed. The terms used as descriptors for the search were "Lipoma", "oral cavity" and "histological variants". In total, 874 articles were obtained, with the time frame criterion of 5 years (2019-2023), 167 articles were listed. Once this was done, of the 167 articles obtained, articles unrelated to the lipoma, without the full text, and those that included theses and dissertations were excluded. In the end, 10 articles were used for this study. The results showed that the buccal mucosa is the most affected site, although the lipoma can appear in various locations. According to histopathological aspects, lipomas can be classified as: (1) “Conventional” lipoma; (2) Fibrolipoma; (3) Myxoid lipoma; (4) Angiolipoma; (5) Myolipoma; (6) Chondrolipoma; (7) Osteolipoma, (8) Spindle cell lipoma. In this study, a significant diversity in the histological presentations of lipomas was observed, which suggests that such differences can influence both diagnosis and therapeutic strategies. Understanding these variants is important for the appropriate clinical management of patients, ensuring a more precise and targeted intervention. Therefore, it is concluded that the lipoma presents a total of 8 histological variations which are arranged in connective and epithelial tissue, presenting microscopic particularities and different degrees of aggressiveness, therefore it is essential to know its variants for an assertive histopathological diagnosis and adequate treatment.
