Abstract: The expansion of Higher Education in Brazil since the 1990s, combined with inclusive access policies such as PROUNI, FIES, and affirmative action policies, has allowed and facilitated the admission of new demographics, particularly from lower social strata, into Law courses, which were traditionally attended by students from dominant classes. Law programs have attracted a significant number of students, considering enrollment numbers, graduates, and available spots. This documentary research aims to analyze the actions taken by the OAB and the legislative changes that have occurred in recent decades regarding Law courses due to the expansion of these programs, as well as the potential impacts on graduates from popular backgrounds in accessing legal careers. The research concludes that a Law degree does not equalize opportunities for different knowledge acquisitions, due to factors such as the institutions attended, students' available time, objective opportunities, and the cultural and social capital gained throughout the lives of students from popular classes. The limits, restrictions, and requirements for accessing legal careers primarily benefit the economically privileged, as they have the means to invest their time and money in preparatory courses, postgraduate studies, and can dedicate years exclusively to preparing for the competitive public exams in the legal field. For students and law graduates from lower-class families, dilemmas and insecurities arise in the job market, given that, aside from the uncertainty of passing the OAB Exam, practicing law also requires significant social and economic capital that these individuals lack.
