Abstract: Leadership is a topic of interest in modern management, due to its importance in achieving high organizational performance. Thus, this chapter presents a theoretical approach to organizational leadership, with the purpose of identifying and understanding the approaches or perspectives that guide its development in organizations. A qualitative methodology and the systematic literature review method were used, which according to Mohamed Shaffril et al, (2021), consists of three phases: identification, selection and eligibility. A total of 12 articles published in journals indexed in the SCOPUS database were reviewed between the years 2010 and 2023. A backward review of other theoretical references was also made, for a total of 29 documents. The results indicate that leadership is an important factor that influences organizational performance. This is how organizational leadership is considered as an independent variable that impacts organizational performance through moderating variables such as leadership style, organizational culture and innovation. Another finding indicates that, although there is no solid theoretical development regarding organizational leadership, there are both theoretical and empirical publications that explore perspectives to guide its application in organizations. It is concluded that leadership is crucial for organizational performance (financial and non-financial results) and that its impact can vary depending on leadership style, organizational culture and innovation.
