Abstract: Eosinophilic leukemia is a rare chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm in companion animals, characterized by persistent eosinophilia in peripheral blood and tissues. This report describes a case of eosinophilic leukemia in a dog. A 2-year-and-6-month-old male Rottweiler was presented with a five-month history of dyspnea, apathy, constant and progressive productive cough, weight loss, and pica. Physical examination revealed muffled heart sounds, pulmonary wheezes and crackles on auscultation, and abdominal pain on palpation. Abdominal ultrasonography showed hepatosplenomegaly. The complete blood count revealed leukocytosis (28,800/mm³) associated with relative and absolute eosinophilia (51% and 14,688/mm³, respectively). Bone marrow cytology confirmed the diagnosis of eosinophilic leukemia. The owner elected palliative care only, consisting of systemic corticosteroid therapy, antibiotics, a bronchodilator, and a mucolytic/expectorant. The dog died three months after presentation. Although rare, eosinophilic leukemia should be considered as a differential diagnosis in animals presenting marked peripheral eosinophilia associated with nonspecific clinical signs.
