LETRA DA CANÇÃO: “SAGA DA AMAZÔNIA”: UM OLHAR INTERDISCIPLINAR
Ao se falar da Amazônia, além das
belezas naturais que lhe são peculiares, não há
como deixar de mencionar os malefícios que,
em nome do progresso, o homem tem causado
à região. Esse assunto contundente é abordado
na “Saga da Amazônia”, de Vital Farias e
Geraldo Azevedo. A música, apresentada no
CD “Cantoria I”, de Elomar, Geraldo Azevedo,
Vital Farias e Xangai, aborda, principalmente,
os danos que o “Dragão de Ferro” trouxe para a
região. Trata-se de uma “saga contemporânea”,
que viaja pelas belezas da região, mostrando
sua fauna, flora e mitos. É sobre a letra dessa
“saga” que se debruça esse trabalho, fruto
de estudos desenvolvidos pelo Grupo de
Pesquisa: “Língua Portuguesa em Contextos
Interdisciplinares”(BCIT-UFMA), vinculado ao
CNPq. Pretende-se elaborar uma leitura do
texto, de forma interdisciplinar considerando,
de um lado, seu gênero e, destacando,
em especial, os fatores que o constituíram
efetivamente como texto, ou seja: os elementos
responsáveis pelo estabelecimento da coesão
e coerência, pontuando-se a intertextualidade.
Serão analisados também elementos poéticos.
De outro lado, verificar-se-á a força das questões
culturais, dos mitos, dos coloridos da mata
para constituir a identidade do povo da região
amazônica. As análises serão iluminadas,
portanto, por autores da Linguística Textual,
da Teoria Literária e também da Cultura. Para
o estudo da narrativa, seguimos a teoria de
Labov (1972).

Abstract:
In describing the Amazon Forest,
in addition to the natural beauties that are
peculiar to it, one can not fail to mention the
damages that, in the name of progress, some
people and companies caused to the region.
This forceful subject is approached in the song
“Saga da Amazônia”, composed by Vital Farias
and Geraldo Azevedo. It is featured on the
CD “Cantoria I” by Elomar, Geraldo Azevedo,
Vital Farias and Shanghai and describes the
destruction caused by the “Iron Dragon” brought
to the region, a metaphor for a huge railroad that

was built in northern Brazil. It is the “contemporary saga” that covers the beauty of the
region: fauna, flora and myths. This work explores the lyrics of this “saga” as a result of
studies developed by the Research Group: “Portuguese Language in Interdisciplinary
Contexts / Portuguese Language in Interdisciplinary Contexts” (BCIT-UFMA), linked
to CNPq research bureau. The intention is to read the text in an interdisciplinary way,
considering both the genre and the text, with all the constituent elements (cohesion and
coherence), mainly intertextuality. Poetic elements are also analyzed. In addition, we
discern the strength of cultural issues, myths, and forest colors to constitute the identity
of Amazon people. The analysis will be directed by authors of Textual Linguistics,
Literary Theory and Culture. For narrative study, we follow the theory of Labov (1972).
