Abstract: The Caatinga, a unique and culturally rich biome, finds in reading and writing powerful tools to preserve its identity. This study, based on a narrative literature review, investigates the role of the community library in the formation and expression of the identity of the Caatinga people, with the aim of engaging in an unpretentious dialogue about new life projects and their readings, within the possibilities of community libraries. These information units are distributed in cities and localities of the semi-arid region, fostered by public policies, international investments, or even by the social organization of some communities, ensuring the right to read for the completeness of citizenship and identity of those who live there. Through a qualitative analysis, works from various fields that dialogue with Information Science were analyzed, focusing on the relationships between reading, writing, and cultural identity in this context. The results highlight the importance of the word as an instrument for preserving the culture and memory of the Caatinga, as well as emphasizing the role of the community library in mediating reading and promoting linguistic diversity. The research concludes that reading is a fundamental human right and that the promotion of public reading is essential for cultural resistance and the appreciation of local identity.
