Abstract: This article aims to present a study on the reading and analysis of the opinion piece textual genre and its contribution to the formation of the reader. Textual genres are of great importance for communication and social interaction. It is through textual genres that many readers develop reading and its formative aspects during school development. Thinking about the contribution of this genre and the reader, a study was developed in the master's dissertation and making a cut for this article. The authors cited for dialogue are: Marcuschi (2008), Kakthin (1895), Bazerman (2006), Koch and Elias (2006), Travaglia (2007) and Brãakling (2000). The methodology is based on the textbook as a support for the reading of the opinion piece textual genre, considered a document, the book is used as an object of study and analysis. The results found that the language used in the opinion article text carries different meanings, subtitles in the textbook, which helps the reader to construct meanings, similarities between texts of the same semantic field according to the BNCC – National Common Curricular Base of 2017 and the importance of reading this genre, contributes to critical and autonomous readers, leading to the formation of an attentive and assiduous reader.
