Keywords: Lateralization of the inferior alveolar nerve is one of the treatment options for carrying out the prosthetic rehabilitation of patients who have bone defects or moderate or severe alveolar resorption or who are not suitable for removable prostheses. The general objective of the research is to present the transposition of the inferior alveolar nerve as an alternative to the installation of osseointegrated implants in the posterior region of the mandible. The specific objectives are: to present the transposition of the inferior alveolar nerve as an alternative to the installation of osseointegrated implants in the posterior region of the mandible and to report the technique, complications and the necessary care to be taken by the professional. The methodology used in the research is the integrative literature review, with data collection from virtual libraries and specialized scientific journals for gathering scientific articles and works on the subject. The libraries used were: Virtual Health Library and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). It is verified that the lateralization of the inferior alveolar nerve is an indicated and effective technique and presents satisfactory results in functional rehabilitations as an alternative in the installation of osseointegrated implants in the posterior region of the mandible. It allows safety and efficacy and may be indicated for increasing bone mass for implant installation, as well as the installation of short implants and can be used in association with other techniques. Achieving effective treatment and providing stability in implant-supported rehabilitation. Delicacy and skill are required from the surgeon for the success of the surgical technique, preventing sensorineural alterations.
