Abstract: Understanding the etiology of any oral disease or condition is crucial for safe and effective treatment. With this in mind, this study aimed to elucidate the etiology, prevalence, and treatment options for dentin hypersensitivity, with a focus on laser therapy. Dentin sensitivity affects a significant portion of society, characterized by short-term acute pain resulting from various factors. High and low-intensity laser treatments have emerged as promising alternatives among dentists for managing sensitivity and related conditions. A comprehensive literature review was conducted, encompassing national and international studies on the effects of low and high- intensity lasers in treating dentin hypersensitivity. Additionally, the review addressed common etiological factors and various treatment modalities. Among these factors, non-carious cervical lesions were predominantly observed, often resulting from abrasion, erosion, abfraction, or a combination of these factors. Consequently, laser therapy has been identified as a biocompatible, non-invasive, and effective method. However, successful treatment relies on accurate diagnosis by the professional to identify and address the underlying etiological factors before implementing laser therapy.
