Abstract: This chapter addressed the organization of women artisans in Juchitán de Zaragoza, Oaxaca, using the textile workshop “Guidxhi Riale Bi” as a case study. This collective emerged in response to the crises resulting from the 2017 earthquake and the COVID- 19 pandemic, moments that exacerbated the economic vulnerability of the artisans. The research aimed to highlight the factors that influence the functioning of this community artisan organization, emphasizing its role as a local development strategy with cultural identity. A qualitative methodology was used, based on participant observation, semi- structured interviews, and focus groups with fifteen members of the workshop. The analysis was organized around two axes: the formation of the “Guidxhi Riale Bi” artisan workshop, an example of community organization, and the production of traditional costumes, an entity of development with identity. The results showed that the collective culture of cooperation, reciprocity, and sense of belonging directly influenced the sustainability of the workshop. The members managed to articulate a productive practice with strong symbolic roots, traditional techniques, and a shared vision of the future. In addition, the group incorporated dynamics of horizontal learning, solidarity, and commitment, which strengthened both their capacities and their cohesion. It was concluded that the “Guidxhi Riale Bi” workshop represents a viable alternative for development with identity, where artisanal textile work not only generates income but also redefines cultural heritage and promotes gender equality through the organized action of women.
