Abstract: Education is highlighting the importance of the affective-emotional component for adequate academic performance and well-being in life. The aim of this work is to analyse, in different regions of Colombia, the socioemotional behaviour of children between 9 and 13 years of age, specifically social skills. The study is ascribed within the positivist, hypothetico-deductive paradigm. With a quantitative, descriptive approach, using data collection with statistical analysis. A dimension of the Emotional Development Questionnaire for Children CDE-9-13, designed and validated by the Research Group on Psychopedagogical Guidance (GROP) of the University of Barcelona, is applied, specifically 9 items corresponding to social skills, in addition to socio-demographic aspects, such as: age, sex and region of residence. The responses of the instrument are handled according to a Likert scale and were applied to students from public schools in 3 Colombian regions. The results indicate that students, regardless of gender, age and region, do develop social skills, but they do so heterogeneously, at different times of life and with varying intensity. The results allow us to infer that school curricula should guarantee social skills training for both teachers and students.
