LA EDUCACIÓN MEDIÁTICA EN EL AMBIENTE ACADÉMICO DE LA UNIVERSIDAD TECNOLÓGICA DE LA MIXTECA
En el ámbito universitario es necesaria la implementación de acciones que favorezcan la educación mediática, principalmente en regiones donde existen estudiantes con limitaciones para el acceso a herramientas digitales. Además, se debe considerar la formación inicial o permanente de los profesores en el uso, adaptación y desarrollo de material académico acorde con las expectativas de los estudiantes con respecto a las herramientas digitales. Se debe capacitar a los profesores sobre métodos de enseñanza apropiados que tengan en cuenta el conocimiento de los estudiantes sobre herramientas tecnológicas, que con frecuencia por el hecho de ser jóvenes se considera al estudiante experto en el uso de la tecnología, sin considerar las carencias y dificultades que muchos estudiantes tienen para poder acceder a dispositivos tecnológicos. Se presentarán los resultados obtenidos del análisis de la información generada por estudiantes de nuevo ingreso de dos carreras de la Universidad Tecnológica de la Mixteca (UTM). Los estudiantes brindaron información respecto al uso, aplicación y acceso a herramientas tecnológicas tanto en su experiencia previa así como en sus actividades académicas en la Universidad. Los resultados han permitido identificar los principales factores que distinguen a los alumnos dependiendo de su carrera. Además, con base en el modelo pedagógico implementado en la UTM, las plataformas educativas virtuales actualmente en uso y la experiencia de los alumnos en el uso y aplicación de herramientas tecnológicas, se pretende identificar las acciones pertinentes que apoyen al alumno en la integración al modelo educativo en la UTM con mayores probabilidades de terminar su proceso académico. Se debe enfatizar en la importancia de incorporar herramientas tecnológicas en el proceso Enseñanza-aprendizaje en las Universidades. Además, aprovechar la disponibilidad y accesibilidad que muestran los alumnos para utilizar herramientas tecnológicas que les permitan alcanzar una educación de calidad.

Abstract:
Currently, there’s a need to implement actions that favor media education in the university environment, mainly in regions where there are still students with limited access to digital tools. In addition, the initial or continual training of teachers in the use, adaptation, and development of academic material should be considered in accordance to students’ expectations with respect to the use of digital tools. Teachers should be trained on appropriate teaching methods that take into account the students' knowledge of technological tools, which, due to the fact of being young, it is often assumed that the student is expert in the use of technology, without considering the shortcomings and difficulties that many students have accessing technological devices. This research presents the results obtained from the analysis of the information generated by first year student in two majors at the Universidad Tecnológica de la Mixteca (UTM). The students provided information regarding their use, application, and access to technological tools both in their previous experience as well as in their academic activities at the University. The results allow for the identification of the main factors that distinguish students depending on their academic major. In addition, based on the pedagogical model implemented at UTM, the virtual educational platforms currently in use and the experience of the students in the use and application of technological tools, pertinent actions are identified to support the student in integrating the educational model at UTM with the highest probability of completing their university studies. The importance of incorporating technological tools in the Teaching-Learning process at UTM should be emphasized. What’s more, to take advantage of the availability and accessibility UTM students have for using technological tools allowing them to obtain a quality education.
