Abstract: Jean Jacques Rousseau with his philosophy collaborated with the production of knowledge, in several fields, beyond the philosophical, but also linguistic, sociological, anthropological, political, as others. He influenced researchers such as one of the founding fathers of the social sciences Emile Durkheim, and of Structural Anthropology: Claude Lévi – Strauss. For these authors, he was a precursor of sociology and ethnology, sciences that played a fundamental role in the history of French social sciences. It is by focusing on such a perspective that we proposed to understand as the object of our research, Rousseau's philosophy as a sociological and anthropological philosophy, being aware of its influence and collaboration over the centuries for the formation of the social sciences. Our methodology focuses on readings of the author's own works, as well as the aforementioned authors, who made use of his philosophy to develop their objects of study. The author of the social contract points out one of the indispensable facts for life in modern society, that is, the contract, the agreement between men, establishing limits and possible rules for the basis of coexistence. Element on which the authors of the French school discussed with new arguments and analyzes of social reality, whether in “simple” or “complex” societies, as the ethnologists of the first generation of the French school called it.
