Abstract: Flows in open channels are characterized by the presence of a free surface subjected to atmospheric pressure, with numerous practical applications in engineering. The characterization of flow in a channel depends on various factors, including the operated fluid, flow area, discharge, flow depth, bed slope, and material roughness composing the channel. This study is based on the experimental investigation of an open rectangular cross-section hydraulic channel test section operated with water as the working fluid. The aforementioned parameters are extensively analyzed through the conduct of experimental tests. In general, it was observed that the flow was predominantly turbulent and supercritical during the testing period. The water layer decreased as the channel slope increased. The average Manning and Chézy coefficients were 0.00784 and 59.1, respectively.
