INUNDAÇÕES E USOS DA TERRA NA BACIA HIDROGRÁFICA DO RIO SESMARIA, RESENDE/RJ
Este artigo apresenta alguns
resultados da pesquisa realizada no curso
de Mestrado em Geografia, da Universidade
Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF), que teve
como objetivo levantar, estudar e avaliar os
condicionantes responsáveis pela ocorrência
e/ou intensificação das inundações do Rio
Sesmaria, na área urbana de Resende/RJ.
Muitas causas foram levantadas e avaliadas,
mas aqui são apresentados os estudos sobre
as transformações dos usos e coberturas da
terra, ocorridas nos últimos 30 anos na bacia,
bem como sua relação com os episódios de
inundação. Os resultados apontam para uma
expressiva e progressiva substituição de áreas
ocupadas por florestas por outras modalidades
de cobertura, sobretudo por áreas urbanizadas
e silvicultura, o que leva a alterações na relação
entre infiltração e escoamento.

Abstract:
The present article presents some
results of the research carried out in the Master's
Degree in Geography, Federal University of Juiz
de Fora (UFJF), whose objective was to survey,
study and evaluate the factors responsible for
the occurrence and/or intensification of floods
of the Sesmaria River, in the urban area of
Resende/RJ. Many causes have been raised
and evaluated, but here are presented the
studies on the transformations of land uses
and coverages occurring in the last 30 years
in the basin, as well as their relation with the
flood episodes. The results point to a significant
and progressive substitution of areas occupied
by forests by other types of cover, mainly by
urbanized areas and silviculture, which leads to
changes in the relationship between infiltration
and runoff.
