Abstract: Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have great potential for improving health education for nursing students and professionals, enabling the delivery of content with quality and dynamism in teaching. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention mediated by social media for continuing education on cardiometabolic diseases. This is a quasi-experimental, non-randomized, pre- and post-test study carried out in a virtual environment (Instagram® and YouTube®) from January to February 2022. The educational intervention consisted of an ''Online Disease Update Course Cardiometabolic'' lasting four weeks and participation of 622 individuals. A data collection instrument consisting of a sociodemographic profile and assessment of knowledge about cardiometabolic diseases was applied, containing 15 competition questions relating to the weekly content of the educational intervention. In data analysis, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and McNemar tests were applied to evaluate the normality of the data and compare the pre- and post-test, respectively. In the DM knowledge test, there was a significant increase in the percentage of correct answers in questions about monitoring (46.1% to 61.2%, p= 0.013), signs and symptoms (77.3% to 82.2%, p= 0.044) and drug effects (72.3% to 79.3%, p= 0.009). However, in the AH knowledge test, there was a significant reduction in the percentage of correct answers on questions related to risk factors (181 to 158, p= 0.028) and conduct (186 to 151, p= 0.000). In obesity, the questions about BMI (71% to 55.3%, p= 0.000) and the case study (53.4% to 51.3%, p= 0.031) also had a significant reduction in the percentage of hits. It is concluded that ICTs facilitated the dissemination and formation of study networks, offering several useful tools for teachers and students. These technologies promote health by disseminating knowledge in nursing.
