Abstract: Intertextuality is a term created in the 1960s by the French semiotician Julia Kristeva, whose creation is based, admittedly, on Bakhtinian dialogism. Thinking about intertextuality in a simplified way, it consists of the relationship between two or more texts – guiding us towards a text of greater scope – which, in this case, are constituted by the epigraphs of the novels by Dulce Maria Cardoso, all by Dulce María Loynaz, and his cover illustrations for Vera Tavares’ editions of Tinta-da-China. The texts – verbal and pictorial – listed constitute our corpus. Thus, in dialogue with a previous study, this study aims to investigate the relationship between the epigraph and cover illustration paratexts of the five novels by Dulce Maria Cardoso. For that, our theoretical framework is constituted by the Barthesian notion of text taken up by Gentil de Faria in Estudos de literatura comparada; Julia Kristeva's concept of intertextuality in Introdução à semanálise and Laurent Jenny's in “A estratégia da forma” and Gérard Genette's notion of paratext in Paratextos editoriais.
