Abstract: Sanitation is an individual and collective right that aims to provide quality of life for the population, however, access to this basic human right is unequal. In Brazilian territory, there is a chronic sanitation deficit, which negatively impacts the most vulnerable populations in several ways, including the development of infectious and parasitic diseases. This study investigated the epidemiological situation of waterborne and foodborne diseases in the health macro-regions of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, from 2018 to 2021, linked to sex. This is a descriptive study, using epidemiological data from the Hospital Information System of the Information Technology Department of the Unified Health System. For this survey, Diseases and Health-Related Problems classified within the ICD-10 (A00-A09; A27) were used, stratified by sex, color/race, and age group. The Metropolitana and Norte macro-regions had the highest number of hospital admissions and deaths. In total, female individuals and those self-declared as white color/race were more affected. Regarding age groups, hospitalizations were recurrent in the children and youth category, but more deaths were recorded among the elderly. This survey can contribute to the development of effective and multisectoral strategies aimed at promoting the health of these groups, especially those with inadequate sanitation conditions, aiming to reduce gender disparities existing in the territory and ensure the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
