Abstract: The present work focuses on violence and hate speech, notably that which relates to gender relations. It is a fundamental debate for the advancement in human rights, considering the contemporaneity and the relationships that take place within the network society, the focus of the professor Manuel Castells. In this sense, a study is made about the legal limits of freedom of expression and virtual lynching, considering the manifestations resulting from odious crimes against women. To this end, it uses the case analysis method on the crime against “Bruna Lícia”, which took place in January 2020, in São Luís – MA.
