Abstract: The prostate is an important gland in the male reproductive system which is responsible for producing a considerable part of the seminal fluid, essential for reproductive success. The gland consists mainly of secretory epithelial tissue and fibromuscular stroma, nerves and blood vessels. As it has been shown in several studies carried out in recent decades, the communication between these tissues is crucial for the proper functioning of the prostate and its organogenesis. However, the development and progression of some pathologies, such as prostate cancer, is also intrinsically mediated by these interactions. Changes in the physiology of these tissues during the aging process may be crucial keys in understanding the emergence of this pathology. Meaning to understand how this communication happens and its implications for prostate organogenesis and tumorigenesis, this chapter brings riglights and implications of signaling between epithelial tissue and mesenchyme in different contexts.
