INTERAÇÃO MEDICAMENTOSA: OS RISCOS QUE A POLIFARMÁCIA PODE CAUSAR À SAÚDE DO IDOSO
O presente capítulo tem como objetivo geral retratar os malefícios que o uso de múltiplos fármacos podem causar à saúde dos idosos destacando as interações entre os medicamentos e analisar a fragilidade do idoso perante o uso terapêutico de vários fármacos e as alterações fisiológicas pertencentes ao envelhecimento; apontar a importância da assistência farmacêutica como tática para o uso racional de medicamentos demonstrando os benefícios clínicos e econômicos; e demonstrar alguns medicamentos que são impróprios para uso em idosos com as possíveis alternativas terapêuticas. A interação medicamentosa pode ser entendida como o evento clínico em que as resultantes de um fármaco são alteradas pela presença de outro fármaco, de um alimento, de uma bebida ou até mesmo de algum agente químico do ambiente, constituindo-se em causas comuns de efeitos adversos. Compreender que envelhecer resulta em várias transformações fisiológicas com degenerações celulares e moleculares que involuntariamente podem diminuir a capacidade física e mental reduzindo a imunidade e, por consequência, tornando o idoso mais suscetível ao risco progressivo de doenças, é essencial para que possam surgir novas pesquisas que visem alternativas capazes de provocar o encolhimento da necessidade da polifarmácia com a finalidade de maximizar a qualidade de vida da população idosa.

Abstract:
The present chapter has the general objective to portray the harm that the use of multiple drugs can cause to the health of the elderly, highlighting the interactions between medications and as specific objectives: to analyze the frailty of the elderly regarding the therapeutic use of various drugs and the physiological changes that belong to them. aging; to point out the importance of pharmaceutical assistance as a tactic for the rational use of medicines, demonstrating the clinical and economic benefits; and demonstrate some drugs that are unsuitable for use in the elderly with possible therapeutic alternatives. The drug interaction can be understood as the clinical event in which those resulting from a drug are altered by the presence of another drug, food, drink or even some chemical agent in the environment, constituting common causes of effects adverse. Understanding that aging results in several physiological transformations with cellular and molecular degenerations that can involuntarily decrease physical and mental capacity, reducing immunity and, consequently, making the elderly more susceptible to the progressive risk of diseases, it is essential for new research to emerge that aim at alternatives capable of causing the need for polypharmacy to shrink in order to maximize the quality of Life of the elderly population.
