Abstract: The purpose of this article was to develop a qualitative, theoretical and bibliographic research which results relate to foundational Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts. A case study involving the application of AI to enhance COVID-19 mitigation strategies was examined, exploring the potential benefits in disease prevention. Data for the study were sourced from the internet, scientific articles, thesis, dissertations, and books. The research process was developed in three distinct phases. The initial phase involved an in-depth exploration of introductory AI concepts and research methodology to establish their relevance to the project. The second phase involved a focused investigation into AI applications within the Biomedical Engineering field. The third phase was based on two articles to analyze a case study involving the application of AI in managing epidemiological outbreaks. The research highlighted the insights gained, identified non-relevant themes, assessed the current status of AI in disease prevention, and underscored the study's significance in advancing the field of healthcare.
