Abstract: This study analyzes the institutionalization of Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (ICHP) in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) as a response to the limitations of the hegemonic biomedical model and the phenomenon of medicalization of life. The research explores the historical process that culminated in the National Policy of Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC) of 2006 and its subsequent normative expansions, highlighting the concept of medical rationalities and the centrality of territory in implementing these practices. The analysis demonstrates that ICHP emerge as a strategy to strengthen care integrality, recognizing the plurality of knowledge and the complexity of the health-disease process, although they face challenges related to practice validation, financial sustainability, and institutional articulation.
