Abstract: Regarded as one of the main and most important urban icons, squares have performed several functions throughout history, in addition to aesthetic and ecological, they provide socialization and quality of life for the population in their surroundings, therefore, these urban elements must be inserted into spaces that favor their use by the community. From this, the objective of this work was formed, which was to evaluate the insertion of squares within the urban road network of the city of Manaus/AM with the aim of drawing a recently updated panorama of the condition of these spaces that are so important for urban centers. Documentary research (physical and digital) was carried out in public bodies and on their websites, with the elaboration of a form that allowed the collection of data from each square and finally, the entire survey and mapping was done through the geolocation tool Google Maps and Google Earth obeying the delimitations by district zone established by the city's Urban Environmental Master Plan. Of the 174 official squares in Manaus, 125 (72%) were classified according to their insertion within the urban road network based on their design, 6 (3%) were not classified, a further 6 (3%) were extinct and 37 (21%) were not found. “Unclassified” squares were excluded from the classification stage because they did not fit the current definition of square. Of the 125 “classified” squares, the predominance was type 3 (n = 43), followed by type 2 (n = 32), type 1 (n = 26), type 4 (n = 23) and type 5 (n = 1). It was possible to draw an overview of the situation of the squares, allowing them to be evaluated and (re)planned to revitalize these public spaces, according to the potential of each area and the needs of the surrounding population, and (re)define public policies for the management of these areas.
