Abstract: Pain is considered the 5th vital sign and is defined as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with or resembling real or potential tissue damage. Pain management is a crucial area in nursing practice, recognized as a right of the critically ill patient and a professional duty to ensure the humanization of healthcare. Currently, it represents a significant issue with a high impact on the critically patient, making an effective approach to its management essential. The implementation of differentiated and effective pain management is considered a quality standard in specialized nursing care for the critically patient, which should include pain assessment, monitoring, and a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. To achieve this, it is necessary to empower nurses in the early identification of pain, the use of appropriate assessment tools, and the implementation of valid and efficient indicators. In this context, clinical supervision plays a relevant role, through its structuring strategies, by minimizing inhibitory factors and enhancing facilitatory factors in pain management, thereby contributing to the safety and quality of care provided to the critically patient.
