• Abstract: The protection and conservation of public supply sources are essential to guarantee the availability and quality of water for urban and rural populations. In Brazil, water resources management is governed by the National Water Resources Policy (Law No. 9,433/1997), which establishes guidelines for the sustainable use and protection of water resources in the country. This policy is implemented through a decentralized and participatory approach, involving the Union, states and municipalities. Therefore, this work seeks to analyze protection and conservation measures for public supply sources from the point of view of water resources management. Thus, the general objective of the study is to identify the factors most relevant to the protection and conservation of the stream Capão Grande Basin watershed, associating these factors with the analysis of how they contribute to ensuring access to water in a safe and sustainable manner. Therefore, the development of this research is a case study, using a bibliographical survey for the theoretical basis and documentary analysis for a better understanding of the case. The research results reveal a lack of information regarding data from the basin itself, in addition, they indicate that there is no specific legislation for the development of adequate planning for the source.
