Abstract: This text describes a scientific initiation exercise carried out in 2019 with two classes of the fourth year of high school at the Federal Institute of Para, Belem campus. The goal is to discuss about the steps followed since the perception of the possibility of implementing the experience without prejudice to the program and regulatory menu of the discipline until the presentation of the research results by the students involved, even mentioning the repercussions of the learnings in the academic and professional life of two students. The work was organised into six fundamental stages: 1) reading and discussion of texts; 2) exercise of writing the research proposal; 3) grouping of similar proposals and revision of the research projects; 4) beginning of the fieldwork and orientations; 5) partial results; 6) seminar for the presentation of the results. This culminating activity made it possible to observe a good appropriation of the research techniques and the sharpening of the students' critical sense.
