INICIAÇÃO À INVESTIGAÇÃO EM BIOLOGIA COM TRABALHO COLABORATIVO EM EQUIPA
O Departamento de Biologia da Escola de Ciências da Universidade do Minho (DB-ECUM) oferece, desde há vários anos, a Unidade Curricular (UC) Laboratórios de Biologia (LB) no âmbito do curso de primeiro ciclo (C1), Biologia Aplicada. Foi objetivo desta UC dotar os alunos recém-chegados à Universidade de ferramentas de investigação em Biologia, promovendo assim competências transversais essenciais para trabalho colaborativo. Estes objetivos foram reforçados em 2019 por um protocolo entre a ECUM e o International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) para aproximar a comunidade académica e científica, envolvendo ambas as partes na metodologia de aprendizagem aplicada nesta UC. A metodologia utilizada baseou-se no mapeamento multimodal dos conteúdos programáticos, para criar projetos colaborativos que foram potenciados pelo uso de murais virtuais e outras ferramentas digitais. Durante o ano letivo de 2019/20, os alunos tiveram a oportunidade única de visitar o INL e observar o ambiente de trabalho real dos investigadores. Puderam interagir com cientistas e discutir a análise e a desconstrução de alguns artigos científicos. Isto proporcionou aos alunos uma experiência prática que melhorou ainda mais a sua compreensão do processo de investigação científica. As restrições impostas pela pandemia da COVID-19 (2020/21) obrigaram a mudanças que estimularam o espírito cooperativo entre colegas de diferentes anos. Muitas das aulas passaram a ser dadas on-line, e a visita ao INL foi também realizada virtualmente. Quer seja através da aprendizagem presencial ou on-line, o trabalho colaborativo entre educadores, cientistas e alunos é fundamental para simplificar a complexidade dos conteúdos científicos. O diálogo entre todas as partes fomenta a curiosidade e a criatividade e incentiva a formação de cidadãos participativos, e não apenas meros acumuladores de informação.

Abstract:
The Department of Biology at the School of Sciences, University of Minho (DB-ECUM), has been offering the Biology Laboratories (BL) Curricular Unit (CU) for several years as part of the first cycle course (C1), Applied Biology. The aim of this CU was to equip newly arrived students at the University with research tools in Biology, thus promoting transversal skills that are essential for collaborative work. These objectives were reinforced in 2019 by a protocol between ECUM and the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) to approximate the academic and scientific community, involving both parts in the learning methodology applied in this CU. This methodology included multimodal mapping of the syllabus, in order to create collaborative projects that were enhanced by the use of virtual murals and other digital tools. During the 2019/20 academic year, students had the unique opportunity to visit INL and observe the real work environment of researchers. They were able to engage with scientists and discuss the analysis and deconstruction of some scientific articles. This provided the students with a hands-on experience that further enhanced their understanding of the scientific research process. The restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic (2020/21), forced changes that promoted a cooperative mindset between classmates from different years. Many classes were on-line and the visit to INL was also conducted virtually. Whether it's through face-to-face or online learning, collaborative work among educators, scientists, and students is crucial in simplifying the complexity of scientific content. The dialogue among all parties fosters curiosity and creativity and encourages the formation of participatory citizens who are not just mere accumulators of information.
