Abstract: The article seeks to examine the persistence of regional asymmetries in the implementation and expansion of water and sewage infrastructure in Brazilian territory. This process has unfolded through a historically recognized pattern of privileging the allocation, expansion and technical sophistication of infrastructure in the Southeast Region, to the detriment of other regions. However, the strong and accelerated process of constitution of large cities and metropolises in all regions of the country, combined with various moments of State actions aimed at decentralizing industrialization, is not fully accompanied by the construction of infrastructure support both to support of housing and the economy, with important asymmetries persisting between the different regions of the country. The focus of the work is the contemporary period of the 21st Century in Brazil, taking for analysis data from the 2000 and 2010 Census, and the most recent data from the IBGE Continuous PNAD of 2022, where we point out that the asymmetries still present, stagnation in the of water supply, and some changes create a territory without a balance of basic water and sewage infrastructure between its regions and unequal in the allocation and appropriation of its benefits.
