Abstract: This study evaluated the influence of edaphic attributes on the development of four hop varieties (Cascade, Magnum, Triple Pearl, and Zeus) cultivated in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro. The region has potential for hop cultivation, but the latitude outside the ideal range and specific edaphoclimatic characteristics can affect plant development and cone quality. Soil and plant samples were collected at different points and depths (0-0.2 m and 0.2-0.4 m), and chemical and physical analyses were performed, followed by statistical analyses to evaluate the relationship between soil attributes and plant development. The results showed that the Cascade cultivar presented the best development, especially in soils with a pH close to neutrality, high phosphorus content, and organic matter. The Zeus cultivar also presented satisfactory results, while the Magnum and Triple Pearl cultivars had the worst performance. The study concluded that hop cultivation in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro is viable, but the choice of cultivar and proper soil management are crucial for successful production.
