Abstract: Introduction: Dental caries is a complex oral pathology, and very often affects children. Currently, caries treatment procedures are more conservative, advocating minimally invasive treatments, thus making the technique of selective carious tissue removal the therapy of choice in the treatment of acute and deep carious lesions. Objective: To assess the level of evidence and scientific knowledge currently available in the literature that indicate the selective removal of carious lesions in primary teeth. Methods and materials: This integrative review followed the steps devised by Cooper. Articles published in the last five years, without language restrictions and that addressed the technique of selective removal, were included in the search. The information collected were authorship, year of publication, objective, study design, degree of recommendation and level of scientific evidence and the main results. Results: Three articles were found. Considering the degree of recommendation and level of evidence, one article was classified as degree of recommendation B and level of evidence 2C, an article as degree of recommendation A and level of evidence 1B, and one could not be classified among the categories present in the work. Conclusion: In the current literature, there are few studies with high levels of evidence that indicate the selective removal of carious tissue for the primary dentition. Thus, it is suggested the need to carry out more work with more robust study designs and better methodologically delineated on the subject.
