Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of parity on the composition of Purunã cow’s milk and to relate the milk parameters to the calves body weight. A total of 118 females and their respective calves (n = 105) were used and divided into group 1: first-calving females (n = 41); group 2: second-calving females (n = 26); group 3: females with three or more calvings (n = 51). Milk samples and body weights were obtained at four and seven months postpartum. The fat (%), crude protein (%), lactose (%) and total solids (%) contents were determined. The results, according to the group, were evaluated using ANOVA and the means compared by the Tukey test, considering 5% probability. The milk components and the calf weight were correlated using the Pearson correlation test. Groups 2 and 3 showed superiority for percentage of fat in the milk and animal weight. There was a weak influence of milk fat content on calf weight. It was concluded that parity influences the milk composition of Purunã cows, as well as calf weight.
