Abstract: The study addresses work engagement, differentiating it from job satisfaction and organizational commitment, highlighting its importance as a predictor of health and productivity. Gaining traction with studies conducted from the 1990s onwards, engagement is defined as the level of physical, emotional, and cognitive involvement of the worker with their work activities, manifesting in vigor, dedication, and absorption. The research uses a bibliographic methodology based on searches in the SABi+ discovery system, focusing on journal articles between 2019 and 2024. In the context of public service, public servants face challenges such as resource scarcity and a negative public image but are motivated by a sense of mission and preferences for intrinsic rewards. The study proposes specific interventions to increase the engagement of public servants, including immediate and tangible feedback, promotion of challenges aligned with competencies, greater autonomy, opportunities for choice, management transparency, strengthening relationships, global development, and creating an environment of psychological safety. It concludes that targeted actions, considering the particularities of public service, are essential to improve the performance and well-being of public servants, highlighting the relevance of engagement as a key factor for the effectiveness and quality of the services provided to society.
