Abstract: This study addressed, through a literature review, the importance of nurses in low-risk prenatal care. Objective: This study aims to understand the importance of nurses in low-risk prenatal care, by identifying the relationship between pregnancy, childbirth, puerperium and prenatal care; to describe the low-risk prenatal care performed by the nurse and to understand the importance of this professional for quality prenatal care and the effects of this care on the parturition process. Materials and Methods: This is an integrative literature review with a qualitative approach, with research developed in the following computerized databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Latin American Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS) and the search medium on Google Scholar. Results: The reflexes of a quality prenatal care at the time of delivery are very visible, so that it is expected that the pregnant woman who experiences a complete prenatal care, performs all the exams, is well prepared psychologically and physically for delivery, aware of the possible interventions if necessary. Conclusion: During prenatal consultations, nurses should explore the opportunity to interact with pregnant women, emphasizing the importance of prenatal care and attendance at all consultations, making these women active members of this process.
