IMPORTÂNCIA DA SAÚDE BUCAL NA UNIDADE DE TERAPIA INTENSIVA: REVISÃO DA LITERATURA
A saúde é um estado biopsicossocial em plena harmonia e a condição da cavidade oral é essencial para este equilíbrio. Manifestações patognomônicas podem alterar a qualidade de vida, pacientes internados na unidade intensiva encontram-se em um estado de vulnerabilidade e, às vezes, não sendo responsivo por seu autocuidado, é importante ter assistência da saúde bucal a nível hospitalar. O objetivo deste estudo foi revisar a literatura sobre a importância da saúde bucal, na assistência a pacientes instáveis e imunocomprometidos na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva (UTI). Trata-se de uma revisão narrativa da literatura de natureza aplicada, com abordagem qualitativa, exploratória e bibliográfica, em que foram selecionados trabalhos em português e inglês, dos últimos 10 anos (2013-2023). Foram realizadas buscas de artigos científicos, trabalho de conclusão de curso, dissertação e livros, de forma on-line, nas bases de dados Pubmed e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). Pôde-se concluir que a saúde bucal na UTI é importante por diminuir os custos no tratamento e reduzir o tempo de internação. A atuação do cirurgião-dentista em conjunto com a equipe de Enfermagem previnem as infecções sistêmicas de origem odontológica.

Abstract:
Health is a biopsychosocial state in full harmony and the condition of the oral cavity is essential for this balance. Pathognomonic manifestations can change the quality of life, patients admitted to the intensive care unit are in a state of vulnerability and sometimes not being responsive to their self-care, so it is important to have oral health care at the hospital level. The aim of this study was to review the literature on the importance of oral health in the care of unstable and immunocompromised patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This is a narrative review of the literature of an applied nature, with a qualitative, exploratory and bibliographical approach, in which works in Portuguese and English from the last 10 years (2013-2023) were selected. Searches for scientific articles, course completion work, dissertation and books were carried out online in the Pubmed and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. It could be concluded that oral health in the ICU is important for reducing treatment costs and reducing hospitalization time. The performance of the dentist together with the Nursing team prevents systemic infections of dental origin.
