IMPLICAÇÕES DA POLIFARMÁCIA EM IDOSOS E O IMPORTANTE PAPEL DO FARMACÊUTICO NESSE PROCESSO.
O aumento de idosos já é uma
realidade. Presume-se que daqui a alguns
anos, haja um aumento da população mundial.
Havendo então, a necessidade de estudos
mais aprofundados no que diz respeito a ação
de fármacos no organismo do idoso. Com
o envelhecimento são observadas diversas
alterações tanto físicas como fisiológicas, o que
é preocupante do ponto de vista do consumo
de medicamentos. A exposição a múltiplos
fármacos, o uso de mais medicamentos do
que os clinicamente indicados ou o consumo
de cinco ou mais medicamentos é reconhecida
como polifarmácia. O presente trabalho
tem por objetivo conhecer a respeito das
implicações desse tipo de interação entre o
paciente idoso e os diferentes fármacos por ele
utilizados, procurando entender com uma visão
farmacêutica como essa repercussão pode
afetar a vida principalmente dos idosos que se
inserem nesse contexto, além de evidenciar o
papel do farmacêutico nesse tipo de situação.
Foi realizado um levantamento bibliográfico das
implicações e consequências advindas desse
processo nesse perfil populacional, em bases
de dados como Scielo e PubMed, nos idiomas inglês e português, com publicações
dos últimos oito anos. O estilo de vida possui grande influência no perfil populacional
de polifarmácia, permitindo o levantamento da lista de medicamentos mais utilizados
e suas possíveis implicações. Deve-se realizar planejamentos das intervenções mais
específicas cabendo então aos profissionais farmacêuticos, médicos e prestadores de
atenção à saúde em geral promover o cuidado e conscientizar os pacientes e seus
familiares sobre o perigo da automedicação.

Abstract:
The increase in elderly people is a true. It is assumed that a few years
from now there will be an increase in the world's population. Thus, there is the need
for further studies regarding the action of drugs in the body of the elderly. With aging,
several physical and physiological changes are observed, which is worrying from the
point of view of drug consumption. Exposure to multiple drugs, use of more drugs than
clinically indicated, or use of five or more drugs is recognized as polypharmacy. The
present work aims to know about the implications of this type of interaction between
the elderly patient and the different drugs used by him, trying to understand with a
pharmaceutical view how this repercussion can affect the life of the elderly who fit
in this context, besides evidence of the pharmacist's role in this kind of situation. A
bibliographic survey of the implications and consequences of this process on this
population profile was conducted in databases such as Scielo and PubMed, in English
and Portuguese, with publications from the last eight years. Lifestyle has a great
influence on the polypharmacy population profile, allowing the survey of the list of most
used drugs and their possible implications. Planning for more specific interventions
should then be carried out, and pharmacists, doctors, and health care providers in
general should promote care and make patients and their families aware of the danger
of self-medication.
