Abstract: The acronym ESG consists of three words of English origin: Environmental (conducts aimed at preserving biodiversity and combating pollution), Social (related to occupational health and safety and human rights) and Governance (associated with ethics, remuneration, transparency, governance corporate and diversity). The ESG Management System is fundamental to the sustainability of mining due to international requirements. It is known that approximately 70% of investors prefer to invest their financial resources in companies that adopt this system. It covers operational, safety, environmental, social, economic and governance aspects. Several companies have successfully applied this system, such as: Sigma Lithium, AngloGold Ashanti, Gerdau and Vale, mentioned in the article. The research was developed through consultation of several technical documents, obtained via the internet. We sought to provide detailed information on the basic ESG methodology, in addition to practical examples of implementation in mining companies. The objective of this article is to demonstrate how ESG policies went from being a sustainable differentiator to a mandatory certification of good practices. This research highlights some successful cases of applying ESG in mining companies. Companies that practice ESG as a business philosophy are known as sustainable companies.
