Abstract: Introduction: The number of diagnoses of Mental Disorders, such as Anxiety and Depression, has been alarmingly increasing and becoming a major public health issue. These disorders affect not only the psychological conditions of patients but also have repercussions for physical health, especially oral health, as they not only decrease self-care but also medications used for treatment can influence oral homeostasis. Recent studies have shown that psychoactive drugs prescribed to treat such comorbidities can cause various side effects, including decreased salivary secretion and alterations in saliva composition. Thus, these factors can contribute to the formation of biofilm and dental calculus. Objective: The purpose of this case report is to analyze and discuss the possible association between the use of antidepressants in the treatment of anxiety and depression and the patient's predisposition to the development of dental plaque and calculus subsequently. Case Report: A 24-year-old male patient presented to the Integrated Dentistry Clinic (IDC) of Tiradentes University Center with the presence of plaque, mainly in the lingual region of his lower incisors. During the anamnesis, he revealed using antidepressants to manage anxiety and depression, associated with the social pressure he faced. The clinical examination revealed the presence of calculus in the supragingival region, despite frequent visits to the dentist. Treatment comprised sessions of supragingival scaling combined with prophylaxis. Conclusion: This case report highlights the importance of investigating the association between the use of antidepressants and the predisposition to the development of dental plaque and calculus. Identifying additional risk factors and raising awareness about the potential effects of these medications on oral health are essential for improving the effectiveness of dental care for patients using these substances.
