Abstract: Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic induced negative eating habits, sedentary behavior and delayed elective surgeries. Studies suggest that weight loss in patients undergoing bariatric surgery was equally affected. This study analyzes the impact on patients after bariatric and metabolic surgery, evaluating the weight loss in patients submitted to treatment before and during the pandemic period. Method: Retrospective case-control observational study with data obtained in a Brazilian tertiary reference center. A follow-up of 116 patients submitted to Roux's Y-gastroplasty technique was performed in the period from October 1, 2017 to November 1, 2021, which were divided into 7 groups and 7 times, according to the period in which treatment and follow-up were performed. All data were evaluated by professionals responsible for the service and duly standardized. Results: It was observed, when comparing the groups among themselves, that there was no statistically significant difference. With respect to the times, one can notice a greater difference in weight between the initial measurements and tendency to a plateau as the follow-up proceeds. Conclusion: The present study showsthat it is possible to continue bariatric and metabolic surgery procedures even in times of pandemics without causing weight loss losses in the postoperative periods, thus bringing benefits to patients.
