Abstract: The objective of this study is investigate whether small businesses (EPPs) in the northern region of the State of Minas Gerais were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. For its development, the Survival Analysis technique was used, applied to microdata from the Annual Social Information List (RAIS) for the years 2013 to 2020, with bankruptcy being defined as an event of interest. A sectoral cut was made, analyzing the services, commerce and industry sectors. The results showed that the pandemic had a significant impact on the survival of EPPs in the region, especially in the services and commerce sectors, which cover the majority of these establishments. However, it is important to point out that if specific government measures for small businesses had not been implemented at the beginning of the pandemic period, the total number of bankruptcies would probably have been higher.
