Abstract: Food insecurity is still a topic that is rarely discussed in the scientific community, due to the belief that it is a worrying risk factor only in poor countries. However, we have observed that malnutrition is present throughout the world, and that when inserted into ontogenetic periods, such as pregnancy and lactation, it serves as a risk factor for the metabolic programming of offspring and impacts the health of children during adulthood. Therefore, as the individual is exposed in crucial stages of development, he or she may develop pathologies that are involved in metabolic syndrome, such as hypertension, obesity, diabetes mellitus, and the most worrying are the possible changes at a behavioral level, promoting the development of anxiety and depression, from childhood to adulthood.
