Abstract: Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus is a pathology characterized by glucose in the blood with possible respiratory diseases. Objective: To evaluate the respiratory mechanics of individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus and compare with their healthy peers. Methodology: 24 male individuals were studied, divided into DM group (subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus; 63.9±13.7 years; n=13) and GC group (non-diabetics; 61.08±12.14 years; n=11). All subjects were admitted for manovacuometry (maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressures) and thoracoabdominal cirtometry tests (axillary, xiphoid and abdominal levels). Results: No differences were found regarding manovacuometry and thoracoabdominal cirtometry between groups. Conclusion: The results suggest that there were no significant differences between diabetic subjects and their control peers regarding respiratory mechanics.
