Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases constitute the main cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, representing an important challenge for health systems. In parallel, anxiety disorders rank among the most prevalent psychiatric conditions in the general population, with repercussions that extend beyond the scope of mental health. Accumulated scientific evidence indicates that anxiety exerts a negative influence on cardiovascular health through pathophysiological, behavioral, and psychosocial mechanisms. The present study aims to analyze the scientific literature regarding the impact of anxiety on cardiovascular health, highlighting the main mechanisms involved, the clinical effects observed, and the implications for health practice. This is a narrative review of the literature, based on national and international publications. The findings indicate that anxiety is associated with autonomic, neuroendocrine, inflammatory, and behavioral alterations, which contribute to increased cardiovascular risk and worse clinical prognosis. It is concluded that the integration between mental health and cardiovascular care is fundamental for effective strategies of prevention and health promotion.
